Lafayette General Health (LGH) gave a sneak peek of a new ambulatory surgery center soon to open within Lafayette General Surgical Hospital (LGSH) at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday. The event also celebrated LGSH's 10th anniversary, noting the hospital's first surgery on November 11, 2004.

Located on the second floor of Lafayette General Surgical Hospital, Oil Center Surgical Plaza (OCSP) encompasses seven pre-op beds, four state-of-the-art operating rooms and 12 post-op/recovery beds. The 12,656 square-foot facility is intended to accommodate less complicated surgical procedures related to ophthalmology, ENT, plastic surgery and pain management.

OCSP comes in response to the continued growth of surgical services at both Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC) and LGSH. "Over the past three years we've experienced double digit growth in surgical volume, thanks to the success of our existing surgeons and our continued efforts to recruit needed specialties to this region," Lafayette General Health President David L. Callecod, FACHE said. The ambulatory surgery center is part of Lafayette General Health and is co-owned by Lafayette General Medical Center and local physicians.

"Oil Center Surgical Plaza will increase operating room capacity for our talented team of surgeons in an efficient, high-quality environment while adhering to Lafayette General's exceptional level of patient care," OCSP's administrator Kenny LeBaron added.

This week, LGH announced that both LGMC and LGSH received health care's distinguished 2014 Beacon of Excellence and 2014 Guardian of Excellence awards for high levels of excellence in patient experience for three consecutive years.
