Lafayette General Health (LGH) gave a sneak peek of a new ambulatory surgery center soon to open within Lafayette General Surgical Hospital (LGSH) at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday. The event also celebrated LGSH's 10th anniversary, noting the hospital's first surgery on November 11, 2004.

Lafayette (La.) General Medical Center lies in the heart of Acadiana, the home of the Cajuns who settled in southwest Louisiana in the 18th century. So it's not too surprising that the hospital's foundation teamed up with Louisiana Folk Roots for a project that taps into the area's rich heritage.

The “library of the future" envisioned in downtown Baton Rouge features a first-floor cafe, a rooftop terrace, spacious conference rooms and an exterior “technology wall" that could be used to show movies to crowds gathering in Galvez Plaza.

Within the next few weeks, Lafayette General Medical Center will put final touches on its $52.5 million, 45,000-square-foot expansion that includes 13 new operating rooms.
