City of Mobile, Cruise Terminal

Mobile, AL

Color and movement were used as design elements to make a bold and energetic statement.

The City of Mobile is excited to be able to welcome Carnival Cruise Lines back to the area. As part of Mayor Sandy Stimpson's plan to create a 'Destination Mobile' and provide a world-class cruise facility; WHLC’s, Fairhope, AL interior designer, Alice Cutright, was asked to create a concept to update the public spaces of the existing Cruise Terminal that would welcome visitors and reflect the city's vibrancy and sense of excitement.

Color and movement were used as design elements to make a bold and energetic statement. The gorgeous blue-green waters of Mobile's Caribbean cruise destinations inspired the color selections and sense of movement. Bold graphics and strong placement of these colors in the elevator lobbies are both memorable and exciting as visitors start their cruise experience. This bold use of color and pattern is continued throughout the concourse with the selection of a vibrant and active carpet. The pattern and colors move from one side of the terminal space to the other with the color concentrated at prime visitor areas; like the window wall and the check-in desks. Existing structural columns become a playful part of the space as they too are treated to a fresh application of color.
